Since the release of the National Hydrogen Strategy in 2019, investment in the Australian hydrogen industry has significantly increased. By the end of June 2021, the Australian Government had provided over $1 billion of support to the hydrogen industry, with a further $325 million committed by state and territory governments.

The location of industry hydrogen projects within Australia is tracked by Australia’s Hydrogen Opportunities Tool (AusH2), developed by Geoscience Australia. Hydrogen projects are colour coded depending on their current status, from those in development (blue) and under construction (orange), to those that are operating (green) or completed (red). It can be seen that most projects are still in the development phase.

You can also view these projects and other hydrogen initiatives at CSIRO’s HyResource. You might also be interested to see CSIRO’s HyResearch which is a comprehensive list of all hydrogen research and innovation projects underway in Australia.
