Exercise: mapping the benefits of diverse innovation

In this exercise you will map the benefits of diverse innovation in your own context
Now that we’ve taken a look at what diverse innovation means, and how businesses can benefit from it, we’d like you to think about what it looks like for you.

We’d like you to create your own mind map to visualise how diverse innovation could benefit you and your community, colleagues or collaborators. A mind map is a visual thinking tool that helps structure information and better analyse, comprehend, synthesize, recall and generate new ideas. You can do any of the following:

  • Use your own notebook/paper and pen
  • Use an online mind mapping tool, such as Miro. We’ve created this template Miro board which you can duplicate to make your own edits. To do this, simply click on the link and sign-up for Miro, you can then duplicate the board following these steps.

Share your answers in the comment section below

Step 1

Describe the work/study/creative situation you want to bring more diverse innovation to in one or two sentences.

Step 2

Make a list or map of behaviours that support diverse innovation. You might want to review step 1.8 where you started to think about this. You could also revisit step 1.9 for inspiration – or come up with new ideas of your own.

Step 3

List or make branches to describe the benefits of each of the things you listed.

Step 4

Take some time to reflect. What is the most important idea for you? How can you implement this in your own context?

Here is an example:

If you make your own mind map either online or offline, please share your reflections in the comment section below. If you would like to share a link to an online version, you are welcome to do so!
