In this section we have explored two notable trends in work and working practices. The rise of remote working and the greater use of technology with a specific focus on email.

One of the key themes to emerge from the discussion of these is that there are clear positive and negative effects at an individual and organisational level to both of these developments. This presents a challenge – how can organisations and individuals get the benefits without the costs? Certainly some of the strategies we have outlined in this week point to ways in which this can be done but we also recognise that the success of these strategies will depend on the specific industry, organisational culture and individual preferences.

In Week 3 we now move to explore further interventions that can be used to manage stress, and maintain or enhance productivity in the workplace drawing the extensive experience of Andy McCann and Martin Turner in their consultancy work with individuals and companies.
