Week 2 Wrap-up

The wrap-up of the week summarises the learning in Week 2 and gives a taste of what is to come in Week 3.
Well done for reaching the end of Week 2! We hope that you have enjoyed the course so far and that you have learned something new.

Through this second week, we have worked together on building a more holistic understanding of the impact of COVID-19 on children’s risk and protective factors using a socio-ecological and developmental model. Together we have further reflected on the differential impact of COVID-19 on boys and girls and have discussed some key considerations on how to adapt data collection to inform a situational analysis in this challenging context. We have grounded our learning in the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action. We have also introduced and reflected on the guiding principles for child protection in infectious disease outbreaks and their centrality in supporting practitioners’ principled action throughout all cycles of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moving into Week 3, we will shift gear and start to focus on how we have to adapt our strategies and approaches during COVID-19. We will shine a spotlight on group and individual activities for children’s well-being, family strengthening interventions and work with communities. Towards the end of the week, we will discuss the importance of working across sectors and with governments to achieve outcomes for children.
