With the continuous evolution of communication technology, disruption occurs to business operations. Have these disruptions presented new marketing opportunities to your business?

To answer this question, it is important to understand the relevance of new digital technologies for your marketing needs and to learn how to examine the specific features of different digital media platforms.

The digital media platforms can be classified based on the companies’ different marketing approaches. They can also be differentiated based on the features of the media themselves, such as their content, the form of content sharing, the target market, the purpose of content sharing, and so on.

You need to be able to analyse the unique features of different social media platforms and think about how to enable these features for your marketing purposes.

Read The Difference Between Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, & Pinterest to learn how to use these platforms for marketing.

You may also wish to read the resource in the ‘See also’ section at the end of this step on how people are using many different types of social media for many different reasons.

Your Task

Investigate three relatively new platforms in your country, their features and how these can be used for marketing in different settings (such as libraries, restaurants, businesses, and conference centres). These platforms do not need to be limited to social media.
Think about the target audience:
  • Who will visit the place?
  • What is the focus of the place (for example, food, entertainment, books)?
  • What type of content will they be posting about?
