Study curriculum design and how to adapt your teaching practice
This course will provide you with the opportunity to enhance your understanding and develop your ability to adapt your teaching to different environments. You will be encouraged to consider pupils’ needs, the multi-faceted role of the teacher, different learning environments and high quality curriculum design to support and best inform planning.
You will also have the chance to explore short, medium and long term planning, as well as pastoral care and the health and wellbeing of staff and pupils.
What topics will you cover?
- Exploring the difference between looking busy and learning
- Reviewing marking and what makes it meaningful
- Exploring the differences between short, medium and long term planning and ensuring all planning is useful and informs learning
- Adapting your teaching to a variety of situations
- Understanding how to effectively set cover work that enables pupils to continue their learning
- The importance of knowing your students and the impact of misinterpreting whether they’re coasting, achieving or struggling
- Reflection on the NSET teaching principles

By the end of the course, you‘ll be able to...
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of developments in the subject and curriculum areas, and promote the value of scholarship through subject pedagogy
- Produce opportunities for pupil learning and understand the inextricable link between these and the quality of teaching
- Demonstrate marking pupils’ work giving meaningful feedback and targets, including verbal feedback, as well as encouraging pupils to self-reflect
- Contribute to the design and provision of an engaging curriculum within the relevant subject area(s)
- Demonstrate adapting to new environments according to the needs of children
- Reflect on the effectiveness of your teaching practice and identify future professional development through critical and systematic analysis of your teaching
