An Introduction to the Teachers’ Standards
Teaching is a profession, and for every profession there are basic standards that people must meet. Teaching is no different. The Teachers’ Standards were created to set a clear baseline of expectations for the professional practice and conduct of teachers, and define the minimum level of practice expected of teachers in England.
This short course will introduce you to the Teachers’ Standards, breaking them down in order to help you understand what they mean and why they are important. You will have the opportunity to share and reflect on these standards with your peers; and colleagues if you are already working in a school.
What topics will you cover?
- What the professional expectations, roles and responsibilities of being a teacher are
- What the different standards are
- The relevance of using the standards as a framework that will improve your ability to teach, and not just an assessment tool
