Explore the importance of collaboration in supporting pupil progress
This course will give you the opportunity to develop your understanding of the importance of collaboration with the wider staffing body in a school and what is meant by collaborative planning and teaching.
You will have the chance to explore the work of Kolb and how it might influence the development of your teaching. You will be encouraged to identify and recognise how to effectively analyse and assess subject and curriculum development to inform how best to support pupil progress. You will also be encouraged to collaborate with colleagues in order to maximise pupil learning.
What topics will you cover?
- Identifying and understanding what is meant by collaborative planning and teaching
- Planning and observing a lesson for a colleague
- Adapting existing lesson plans for your pupils
- Accepting feedback from expert colleagues throughout the training journey
- The work of Kolb and how it influences the development of teaching
- Professionally managing discussions and conflicting opinions between staff members, parents and the senior leadership team
- Researching gaps in curriculum or subject knowledge – planning ahead for your own subject knowledge
- How pastoral staff can influence and contribute to classroom practice
- Planning to use support staff effectively in the classroom to maximise pupil learning and progress

- Demonstrate a critical understanding of developments in the subject and curriculum areas, and promote the value of scholarship
- Explore how schools work most effectively to support pupil progress and link pastoral and academic roles to pupil progress
