Looking Back to Plan for the Future - Secondary
Reflect on your own learning and CPD and prepare for your ECT years
This course will introduce you to expectations for your induction for early career teachers (ECT). It will aim to encourage and support you in taking responsibility for your own learning and continued professional development.
You will have the opportunity to reflect on your lesson plans to review how your knowledge of your subject, curriculum and pedagogy have developed throughout your training. You will also have the chance to evaluate the principles of effective teaching and learning and what it means to be a professional teacher.
What topics will you cover?
- Development of your subject knowledge, understanding of the curriculum you teach and teaching pedagogies
- The importance of regularly auditing subject and curriculum knowledge
- Understanding what critical thinking is and how it can influence and inform your approach to planning
- What you can expect in your ECT years and understanding the Early Career Framework
- What appraisal and performance management look like
- Completing your personal CPD

- Reflect on your Subject Audits and your needs in order to prepare yourself for teaching during your ECT years
- Identify targets for future development and complete a training plan for your ECT years
