On this interactive five-week course from Chinese Plus, you’ll build a solid foundation of the Chinese language to use in everyday situations.
You’ll start by developing your phonetic knowledge of Chinese before exploring a variety of topics to help you understand and communicate in different contexts.
Through engaging videos and content, you’ll explore the Chinese phonetic system (pinyin). This system will help you overcome the challenges of connecting the written Chinese characters with their corresponding sounds, so you can master your pronunciation alongside your language learning.

As you explore different language points, you’ll learn everyday phrases to help you communicate useful information.

Chinese Writing System
Chinese characters are made up of strokes, just as English words are made up of letters. If you want to learn writing Chinese characters, you have to start with strokes. Today we will learn five basic strokes.

Today we’ll focus on some difficult groups of pronunciation in Chinese: the initials j, q, x, z, c, s and the finals i, u, ü;
Chinese Writing System
We’ll learnt another two new hook strokes and four Chinese characters人、中、月、心。
Week 3 Summary
We have learnt how to ask and answer the names, nationalities and to use 是 sentences. We practised j, q, x, z, c, s and learnt changing tone rules of 不. We also learnt 2 new strokes and 4 characters. Let's test if you grasp them.

Today we will learn the question word "who", and how to say "my" in Chinese.

You will learn how to introduce your friend or classmate; enquire about someone's nationality.
Chinese Pronunciation System
Today you will practise the initials zh, ch, sh, r and the alveolar nasal "n" and the velar nasal "ng"; also the tone sandhi of "yi" and use of "y" and "w".
Chinese Writing System
You will learn 2 more strokes; 4 new characters; and one stroke order rule.

Today we will learn how to use gestures to express numbers from 1 to 10. And we will also learn how to use the interrogative pronoun 几 to ask about the number from 1-10.

You will practise the retroflex final and the finals beginning with i, u, ü; get to know the difference between aspirated and unaspirated initials; and know how to use syllable-dividing mark.
